Abstract

This resource includes seepage meter data from two field campaigns (August 26, 2016 and Marsh 2-3, 2017) at St. Jones National Estuarine Research Reserve in Dover, Delaware. Seepage meters were used to quantify groundwater-surface water exchange between the salt marsh sediment and tidal channel. This resource includes raw data and flux calculations from 16 seepage meters over a tidal cycle.

Seepage meter deployment details

Sixteen seepage meters were deployed in two rows of eight, perpendicular to the tidal channel (i.e., perpendicular to the water flow direction). Seepage meters were deployed in the bank and bottom of the tidal channel. Bank meters were completely exposed at low tide and bottom seepage meters had some water covering the meter at low tide, albeit not necessarily enough to sample. Seepage meters were constructed similar to Russoniello and Michael (2014) and deployed one-day prior to sampling. Plastic bags were pre-filled with 2L of water and weighed before and promptly after collection. Negative flux values indicate recharge of water into the sediment; positive flux values indicate water discharge into the tidal channel.
