Abstract

This resource includes overbank water levels and temperatures at 3 floodplain sites along the Lower Mississippi River downstream of Natchez, Mississippi, between October 2017 and November 2020. Overbank conditions are captured for three major floods, including the longest duration flood (2019) in recorded history along the Mississippi River. These time-series data of overbank water levels and temperatures are derived from Onset Hobo U20 pressure and temperature sensors deployed at 3 sites in the Lower Mississippi River floodplain between October 2017 and November 2020. Additionally, in-situ water quality data and depth-integrated samples were collected from the overbank water column during major flood conditions at multiple floodplain sites in March 2019 and June 2019. Water-quality measurements and laboratory analyses of suspended sediment, carbon, and nutrients are also provided in this resource. This resource is associated with an article in Journal of Hydrology titled 'Inundation mechanisms and overbank water quality along the Lower Mississippi River during the major floods of 2018, 2019, and 2020' (Heitmuller et al., 2025).
