Abstract

Shapefile recording the federal protection classifications of roughly 253,000 wetlands in New York State, sourced from the National Wetlands Inventory (NWI). Wetland polygons were obtained from the National Wetlands Inventory (NWI). Wetlands are classified under both the Clean Water Rule (CWR) and the Navigable Waters Protection Rule (NWPR) based on the NHD stream network. Adjacent wetland polygons were merged to prevent errors in classification. See manuscript for full description of wetland filtering.

CWR_val	Classification of NWI wetland based on NHD stream network under the Clean Water Rule (CWR). 1 = Jurisdictional by rule 2 = Requires the application of the significant nexus test 0 = Not jurisdictional.
NWPR_val	Classification of NWI wetland based on NHD stream network under the Navigable Waters Protection Rule (NWPR). 1 = Jurisdictional by rule 0 = Not jurisdictional.
Attribute	NWI Cowardin Wetland Classification Codes
NEAR_DIST	Distance in meters from the edge of NWI wetland to the nearest jurisdictional water (NHD waterbody or stream network).
WETLAND_TY	NWI Cowardin wetland classification and type corresponding to attribute code.
