Abstract
These are the analyzed results of water samples collected from the Shimshal catchment in the Karakoram Mountains of Pakistan from October 2018 through September 2019. Water, melt, spring, and snow samples were analyzed for stable water isotopes (H18O and 2H), and major ions at Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH) in Islamabad. At PINSTECH, isotope values are analyzed using cavity ring-down laser spectroscopy, with a precision of approximately 1 ‰ for 2H, and 0.2 ‰ for 18O. Stable isotopes in water are reported in δ notation: δ = (Rsample/Rstandard − 1), where Rsample and Rstandard are 18O/16O (or 2H/1H) ratios for the standard and the sample, respectively. Vienna Standard Mean Ocean Water (VSMOW) standard is referenced as the standard in the analysis. Major ions are measured using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer, utilizing procedures suggested by the American Public Health Association (Baird & Bridgewater, 2017).
Information includes isotope and ion values for each sample, information on the sample date and location.
