Abstract

This HydroShare resource provides a Jupyter Notebook for accessing, exploring, visualizing, and subsetting NextGen Hydrofabric data for a selected Vector Processing Unit (VPU). The notebook introduces the structure of hydrofabric GeoPackage files, including key layers such as divides, flowpaths, nexus, network, and hydrolocations. It demonstrates how these layers are connected through identifiers and how water movement can be traced through the hydrofabric network. It walks through the relationship between catchments, flowpaths, and nexus features using a USGS gage location as an example. The notebook then explains the concept of upstream traversal and applies a Python-based subsetting function to extract the upstream watershed draining to a selected downstream divide.
