Abstract

Hourly observations data for groundwater table level, tide level, and rainfall for seven wells. Each well has a full data set (Dfull) and a data set of storm events (Dstorm). These data are used as input for data-driven forecasting of groundwater table in Norfolk, VA 2010-2018.

Thanks for sharing! I am curious - was this data originally downloaded from the City of Norfolk, USGS, or some other source? I am specifically wondering where I might find post-2019 data.

Thanks for your comment Daniel! The groundwater and tide data came from the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD). They used to have a data request page online, but I didn't see it; send me an email and we can talk more. The tide data came from NOAA's Sewells Point gauge.

Great, I'll be in touch about that. There were a couple other questions I had about the data too if you don't mind. What datum are the groundwater levels relative to (or is it just depth from ground surface?) And was the precipitation data collected at each groundwater monitoring site or from elsewhere? I can follow up with an email about these questions too, I just figured others using these data might wonder the same things.

No problem! The groundwater and tide data are referenced to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). One of the stations is the same for rain and groundwater, but not the others. You can check out the station locations in Figure 1 of this paper: https://www.mdpi.com/2073-4441/11/5/1098.
