Abstract

Interviews were conducted in 2023 as part of a NSF-funded project to assess community wellbeing in communities in the Yakima River Basin in Washington, US. In addition to assessing factors that generally affect community wellbeing, additional inquiry focused on food security and sovereignty, water resource and snowpack conditions, environmental change, demographic change, and regional connections and how these dimensions influence community wellbeing. Focal communities were Yakima, Ellensburg, Tieton, Cle Elum, and Roslyn. Interviews were conducted with key informants and general community residents. Individuals were recruited through criterion and snowball sampling as well as public flyers and social media posts (for community interviews). Interviews were recorded and transcribed using Otter.ai. All interview transcripts have been redacted or summarized to protect the identity of participants. Further details can be obtained from the project authors.
