ABSTRACT:

These data represent data used in Tyler, S.W., J. B. Chapman, S. Conrad, D. Hammermiester, D. Blout, J. Miller, M. Sully and J. Ginanni (1996). Soil Water Flux on the Nevada Test Site: Temporal and Spatial Variations over the Last 120,000 Years. Water Resources Research. Vol. 32(6): 1481-1499. These data were only published in graphical form. Bulk density (dry) measurements were made on core samples from three (PW1, PW2 and PW3) deep vadose boreholes in 1994 on the Nevada Test Site in southern Nevada. Where bulk density measurements were not available on cuttings samples, an average bulk density from all cores taken in the borehole is reported. For Borehole PW3, dry bulk densities were recorded on ~12 core samples, however the individual recorded values are no longer available. Tyler et al., (1990) appears to have used an average of these 12 samples of 1680 kg/m3 for chloride age calculations. .The boreholes were drilled using air as a drilling fluid and were drilled to support characterization of the deep vadose zone in the vicinity of the Department of Energy's Area 5 Radioactive Waste Management Site. (Lat 36.860; Longitude 115.959) The full description of sampling and analysis techniques can be found in Tyler et al. 1996. The full list of authors and contributors can be found in the publication, both on the author list as well as the acknowledgements section of the manuscript.
